Chatting about: The ebb and flow of stress levels.
This episode comes to you from Portugal and I talk about how any horse that is alive will be in a constant state of change in how they feel and their cycles of stress. How do we navigate that? When we see their variations in feeling, do we know which ones we most want to reinforce and perpetuate and why?

Chatting about: The ideas of reading the horse, not the rulebook.
This episode comes to you from Belgium and I talk a bit about the things I have been learning as I teach. Ultimately the horse is always our teacher, if we get things right we see their stress go down and the horse has learned something. If we get things wrong the horse’s stress goes up and the human has learned something about what needs to change next time. Such an interesting puzzle that varies with each horse we encounter.

Chatting about: The ideas of instincts and actions.
In this episode we talk about what happens when a horse or human stops thinking. This is when Instinct kicks in and our default patterns of responding occur. Learning how to build positive default patterns is an important consideration in the training of both horses and humans.

Chatting about: The idea that perfection is built with an appreciation for imperfection...
In this episode we talk about how horses also need to see humans fail. When we show up and feel like we might cause fear, frustration, or irritation in our horses, these are real life situations that horses need to learn how to work with. In the times we fail to be as helpful as we would like for our horses, it is their opportunity to practice showing up to help us.

Chatting about: The importance of movement for horses...
In this episode we talk about how integral movement is for a horse’s overall health. Sometimes a horse’s needs for health will supersede all my primary goals for working in freedom. How do we balance our horses natural free choices and their primal needs for good health? Atlas has been challenging me to think about this more deeply than I ever have before.

Chatting about: The Bank Account of The Relationship…
In this episode we talk about the analogy of thinking about our relationships as a bank account. In a relationship we are banking trust not money. How do we see that trust being built or depleted? How does that differ with different types of horses? These questions are often easier to answer when we use this analogy of banking.

Chatting about: Doing the very best for our horses and the reality of making mistakes sometimes.
In this episode I tell some stories about mistakes I have made with Atlas to answer a student's question. We are all learning from our horses as we train. Mistakes are part of that learning process.

Chatting about: The differences between working with a clean slate horse versus a horse with a history of trauma.
In this episode I introduce Atlas as one of the main characters of the third Taming Wild film: Taming Wild: Evolution. I also talk about how my training theory has grown and adapted as I have learned more about the differences between horses coming from a bad history and horses who start with a clean slate.
