Chatting about: Waiting versus causing…
In this episode, I talk about the foundation of Freedom Based Training™ is to wait and see what the horse offers before you cause the horse to do something. The fewer tools you have, the more you wait to see what the horse will do. When you allow the horse to offer behaviors, they become more self-sufficient and they will be more intrinsically motivated in the relationship as you are reinforcing their ideas.

Chatting about: Companionship at different energy levels…
In this episode I talk about how stress affects relationships and how companionship affects the functionality and enjoyment of stress. We know that stress affects the relationship positively if our horse’s friends still want to be with them after the interaction, and it affects the relationship negatively if their friends leave them after the interaction. I look at the advantages and disadvantages to having high or low stress in the relationship and how it affects horses’ relationships with each other, and their relationship with us.

Chatting about: Emotional intelligence in horses and humans…
In this episode I talk about how the emotional intelligence of both humans and horses affects relationships and problem solving skills. The higher the emotional intelligence and maturity, the more playing, yielding, and thinking. The lower the emotional intelligence and maturity, the more fight, flight, and freeze.

Chatting about: Herd dynamics...
In this episode I talk about the ways we can set horses up for success when we are introducing them into new herds. Knowing how to set horses up to interact for the first time in safe and social ways instead of self defense behaviors, is beneficial for everyone.

Chatting about: Is it worth the time invested?...
In this episode I talk about how much longer it takes to do this work without any tools, halters, or food rewards etc. Is it worth it to take all that time? I believe it is for me, but for most people weighing the pros and cons of using more tools for a faster outcome is something that must be considered thoughtfully. I love the slow road of development, but I honor that sometimes the faster road might be more appropriate. This is a conversation worth considering.

Chatting about: Letting go...
In this episode I talk about my emotional process as I transition from having my stallions close to home to letting them go out on the large acreage of pastures in the valley. I wonder with Atlas, have I given him enough of a stable emotional foundation that he can handle the move gracefully?

Chatting about: What there is to prove...
In this episode I talk about my own personal aspirations with my horses. I have slightly different ideas of what I want to prove to myself and to my horses with my training methods and my horse care practices. I want to prove that I can set up a really good life for my horses, in every way I am able.

Chatting about: Horse trailers and preparation…
In this episode I talk about preparing Atlas for trailering to his new home in the big pastures. When we break the process down to the smallest steps of progress we need to know what details are important to notice in the horse.
